BOXED
ICAM - Senior Project
In this installation, players are invited to engage with a 2D animated girl, interacting with her as if she were their own personal “girl.” The setup mimics an arcade machine, with gameplay snippets and stylized advertisements designed to attract attention. Players use a camera and hand-tracking technology to control an on-screen hand in real time.

Initial Proposal
My base code was a final project for my previous class. Unfortunately it somehow was saved over (sigh) and I lost the original code. Learn from me and save duplicates. This project includes M5Pose Tracking for P5JS.
I started with sketching out my character. I called these different sketches "phases". The idea was to have her change every time the on screen hand would touch her for an extended amount of time.I was extremely focused on how to portray emotions through abstract shapes at this stage. I wanted something dramatic.
First Draft
During the first draft my focus was on creating a demo that:1. Tracked hand motion using camera.2. Switch between images when a trigger point was touched.3. Try to implement a "breakdown" phase.

Second Draft
After our midterm, I wanted to add more to the game.I decided to get rid of the breakdown phase as I wanted to focus on softer ways to express my ideas.

Inspiration
The installation draws inspiration from performances like Marina Abramović’s Rhythm 0, where the artist allowed the audience to do whatever they wanted to her body—only to have the atmosphere shift drastically once she reclaimed her agency. Similarly, this project examines what happens when the boundary between passive object and autonomous subject is disturbed.
